  installer crashed claiming ssd was ro media after 90% installation

Bug description:
  second crash during install on this platform, ssd is hooked up to 3rd
  party marvell 6bg sata controller embedded on asus p5 mb. selected the
  "along side windows 8" install option, ssd was freshly formatted by
  windows 8 just before ubuntu install. win8 was installed to a ~64gb
  partition (plus 350mb service partition) and ~64gb of free space was
  left for ubuntu to install in.
