[Bug 955228] Re: search with numbers and letters using synaptic quick filter doesn't quite work

This is not a bug in Xapian.

Xapian searches for the terms you index, not arbitrary substrings of
them. If you want a search for “neon27” to match the word “libneon27”
in a document, then your best option is to index the additional term
“neon27” for the package name “libneon27”.

The reason that “neon” matches the libneon27 package will be because it
has the word “NEON” in its description.

Title:
search with numbers and letters using synaptic quick filter doesn't
  quite work

Status in “xapian-core” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
The Quick Filter search in Synaptic Package Manager won't display
packages matching a search for numbers for numbers and letters.

Example: Quick filter search on "neon" matches
  libneon27
  libneon27-gnutls
  libneon27-dbg
  (etc)

But Quick filter search on neon27 matches nothing.

The problem with searching seems to happen when the string you're
searching for doesn't match the beginning of a package name.

Another example: search for gcj11 and libgcj11.
