[Bug 1080980] [NEW] Screen freezes after it sits a few minutes

Public bug reported:

The mouse pointer (MS trackball) still moves across the screen but nothing wakes.
At the same time, when the laptop is attached to my external lcd monitor the mouse pointer on the external will disappear altogether, though not on the laptop screen.

This is a fresh standalone install of Ubuntu 12.10 on a Gateway MX8711. There is no other operating system.
Hard Drive: Intel 80GB SSD.
Ram: 2GB DDR.
