I also have no idea why this package would be installed for you as part of a
12.04.1 install.  The only packages that depend on desktop-base are 'gnome'
and 'xfce4', neither of which are part of the standard Ubuntu install.

  Hi,

  I've just installed a new PC with the 64 bit version of the 12.04.01
  alternate installer.

  You know what? When going into the grub menu before booting, it shows
  the debian instead of the ubuntu splash screen.
