No, I haven't. So the problem is that the process cannot read my
~/.Xauthority file, because it is readable only for the user.

So this is the reason, but what is the fix? Shouldn't it be passible to
launch GUI apps that need root privileges with /home over NFS? It's not
so unusual.

  "No protocol specified
  (gpartedbin:4076): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :1"

  This means gparted cannot be started from the unity dash.

  Starting with "gksudo gparted" works fine.
