Usplash was replaced by plymouth which AFAIK gives the expected boot
time experience at the moment.

Bug description:
  PowerBook G4 (M5884), Ubuntu and Kubuntu Live CDs (probably Edubuntu
  too, but haven't got that far)

  usplash exits between casper "Configuring X" and the first message in
  the main boot "Preparing restricted drivers", the screen goes blank
  during this period as well.
