[Bug 1062111] [NEW] Video problem upgrading from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10

Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 11.04 from disk I installed updates with Update
Manager, I then updated from 11.04 to 11.10, after installation  my
screen blanked every 6 seconds. I repeated the process using a different
monitor and the same thing happened. I installed 11.04 again with the
original monitor and downloaded the 12.10 iso and burned to disk. I then
upgraded 11.04 from the disk and it installed perfectly.
