You have a syntax error in the file '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/otto-
kesselgulasch-gimp-oneiric.list'. You'll need to manually inspect and
correct the file to resolve the issue or if you remove it you should be
able to use software center again.

Here is a manpage regarding sources.list which may be of some
assistance:

Title:
I think that Update manager might be dead on my computer.

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Just to clarify, I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. As far as I know, only Ubuntu
Software doesn't start at all. Also, a window that appears for 0.68
seconds called 'Updating Cache' comes up when I try to check for
updates. This means that I can no longer update the system from the
internet. I can't update from a CD-R because I have multiple OSes on
my computer, most of them from previous attempts of getting Ubuntu to
stop mysteriously wiping out some files causing it to boot to BusyBox
"Probably due to hard drive issues". I need to keep these OSes to help
me recover apps and files that still exist. Almost everything I try to
  install or update through the terminal says the following;

E: Type 'n' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/otto-kesselgulasch-gimp-oneiric.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.

And running gives me the exact same error, word for word.

It is because of this that Ubuntu Software Center's sudden loss of
functionality is a big deal. And one error said to include 'update-
manager' and 'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 3 in source list
  /etc/apt/sources.list.d/otto-kesselgulasch-gimp-oneiric.list' and what
I expected to happen which was, to open Ubuntu Software Center
normaly, and to Update Gimp. But Gimp didn't update, and after several
guides on how to update gimp to 2.8, Ubuntu Software Center just
stopped working. I'm also pretty sure that the only way to fix this is
through a system update, but it can't be done at all. Please give me
any possible solutions as soon as possible.
