Upgrade manager stops at 29 of the 46 updates needed to upgrade, saying the
"the repository might no longer be available or could not be contacted due
to "network problems" . Given that 29 do come quickly, the network seems
fine on my end.
I have tried several times at various days, at different times, and it
always stops at 29 of 46 packages.
It appears I am stuck with 6.6 unless I can do a fresh install, but it
will not allow that.
I still have the 6.6 install disk, would that be useful in this process ?
Is Ubuntu 12 not available as a self installing program executable in Linix
?

Title:
downloaded disk will not auto-run on startup.
Status in “installation-guide” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I have Ubuntu 6.6 on an old hp machine, formerly a win2000 machine.
No matter the boot sequence settings for start-up, only 6.6 runs. The Downloaded install disk will not initiate installation.
Apparently 6.6 is too old to update, or allow the new version to take
over.
What do I do ? I am not proficient enough to manually install via the
boot sector. I cannot even find gparted.
