As Robie mentioned, this is really not an issue of the debian installer.
The issue is related to the way how MAAS is installing and creating the
necessary RabbitMQ queues. For this reason, I'm marking this as
duplicated of the bug above.

  WORKAROUND:

  Do *not* install MAAS via the initial installer selection; install a
  normal server, then, after booting into the system, 'sudo apt-get
  install maas'.
