Looks like this was originally added for 8xx, and the link I wrote for
that is still there: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/i8xxUnsupported

I'm gathering that the dialog was repurposed for this new need, but I
guess no one got the action item to fill in the wiki page?

Here are a few reasons a user might find themselves facing this dialog:
  * Outdated hardware not providing required level of OpenGL support
  * Too new hardware without driver support yet
  * Obscure hardware without 3d support
  * Virtual machines
  * Binary drivers required but not installed

I suppose the text of the wiki page should mention that the user will be
running under LLVMpipe - i.e. software rendering. While llvmpipe is
pretty good on modern CPUs, if your video card is old your CPU is likely
old too, and it may result in unusable performance.

Alternatives may include sticking with an old ubuntu release or
switching to one of the lighter weight derivatives or Debian. For 12.04
and 12.10, ubuntu-classic (no effects) is also a feasible option. Not
sure which (if any) of these are worth recommending.

Title:
Link "UpdateManagerWarningForUnity3D" in "No 3D Support" dialog points
to a page with no real content

Status in “ubuntu-release-upgrader” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Upgrade from Precise to Quantal

If the hardware has no 3D support, there is a dialog (Screenshot
Selection_095.png attached) at the beginning of the upgrade telling
the user that his hardware doesn't fully support 3D and asking if he
wants to continue or abort. This dialog contains an external reference
  to a wiki page -
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/UpdateManagerWarningForUnity3D -

This page has no real content and just says that the user will see a
warning that he is actually seeing. The link should be removed from
the text or the wiki page updated with useful content.

Furthermore, the link is not active (the user must copy/paste the link
into a browser), the layout of the text is broken (no punctuation
before the last sentence) and the dialog has no title.
