  Grub error Jaunty install

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ubiquity

  Dell mini 9, no partition (told partitioner to use entire SSD)
  In the final stage of install from live USB returns an error message along the lines of Grub install error ... this is a fatal error. Can reboot but the reboot image is not found so uses default, this is a issue as default is for larger screen size and no menu items are visible on the mini9 screen.
  have tried some repairs found here via TTY1 but no success
