Here is the message I get when I try to upgrade and it shuts down and
reverts to 12.04

W:Failed to fetch http://a4150907916d35b8ca3650de9e32fb290eaca480.studioxps.dell.archive.canonical.com/updates/dists/quantal-dell/public/binary-i386/Packages  404  Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

This is after I have tried all of the different approaches and machines
described above. BTW I have used this machine for a few years now and
successfully performed at least four prior upgrades.

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I assume a system upgrade is due every 6 months. If so, then the next
  upgrade would be V 12.10. When can I expect this?

  It ried to download 12.10 first to my wired connection desktop and it
  crashed after about the thrird step loading packages. Techy friend
  said maybe it was cause by a firewall built into my router so I
  rewired the desktop directly from the network modem. Same thing.
  Rebooted the computer and the modem, same thing. Went back to original
  hookup and tried to upgrade my netbook also running 12.04, same
  result.

  HELP!!!
