Experienced this issue running the server installation for 10.04 LTS
from a USB stick to a RAID - Ubuntu was installed to the RAID but grub
was installed to the USB stick.

Title:
d-i does not provide a way to select which drive to install grub to
Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
These days Ubiquity provides a selection for which drive to install
grub to. This is vital for people whose systems do not boot from the
first disk that the kernel detects. The same ability needs added to
the alternate installer.
