The upstream Linux 3.9 kernel finally contains ZPODD, the Zero-Power
Optical Device Driver. It's only for SATA optical disk drives though.
A PPA of this kernel is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/ and instructions on how to install and uninstall it are
available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

Title:
acpi - Option to disable CD/DVD drive for power saving
Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
It's probably possible to disable the dvd drive when the user does not need it.
It should save some power.
It'd be useful for http://udu.wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerSavingMode
