Public bug reported:

My steps:
1) I started the installer on the live DVD
2) I got to the point of partitioning, where I noticed I needed advanced features (resizing and moving Windows partitions)
3) I started gparted and performed the required tasks and also created the new partitions for Linux (but I did not close gparted!)
4) after switching back and forth in the installer, it recognized the new partitions, so I chose them with the proper mount points
5) the installer continued to the point of choosing a keyboard layout
6) When clicking "Next", it hang indefinitely with a "busy" mouse cursor.

Eventually, I killed the installer, restarted the PC (waited for Windows
to repair itself) and rerun the Ubuntu installer. This time, it
succeeded. My assumption is that gparted held a lock of the partitions
or something, and the installer did not notice it, warn about,...
