update-notifier does more than just notify you of updates. It also
watches for .crash files in /var/crash, cups printer drivers, disks with
debian packages, and local avahi connections among other things. I
don't think it makes sense to rename update-notifier to update-manager-
daemon.

Title:
System Monitor shows unfriendly name "update-notifier"

Status in One Hundred Papercuts:
  Triaged
Status in “update-notifier” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-notifier

  I suggest renaming the update-notifier > update-manager daemon .
Since its now working just as an update manger daemon, and there is *no other specific notification*, which existed earlier.

This would ease the discomfort that several users have complained in
Bug #332945 , saying the new pop-under is a security threat.

The main source of the discomfort is because the daemon is labeled different from the app it opens.
Renaming it would make it more up-to date with the present designed behavior for updates.
