You are trying to use a GPT partitioned disk in a BIOS booting pc. You
need to either switch to UEFI mode, or create a 1 MB bios_grub partition
on the disk.
** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)

Title:
fatal error on win8.1 second sda
Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I installed a second sata drive on Windows 8. Experimented with using
it for file backup. Then upgraded to Windows 8.1. Then formatted the
second drive in Windows 8.1. Then I tried installing Ubuntu 13.10 64
bit from bootable iso. The installer told me there were no operating
systems. I selected the second (freshly formatted disc) and the
installer then informed me I'd deleted 4 parititions. I cancelled the
install and repeated the process. This time the installer informed me
the boot loader could not install on the second hard drive.
