It appears that grub2 is not generating the drivemap command to fake the
windows boot sector into thinking the drive it is on is actually the
primary drive in the system ( it can't boot from any other ).
** Summary changed:
- Grub2 lists, but can't boot Windows 7 after upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10.
+ Grub2 doesnt drivemap windows entries booting from second disk
** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Triaged
** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => High

Title:
Grub2 doesnt drivemap windows entries booting from second disk
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Grub 2 can no longer boot Windows 7 after upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to
12.10. The machine has two physical SATA HDDs, both configured with
single partition. Disk one (sdb1) runs Ubuntu 12.10 and disk two
(sdc1) runs Windows7. Disk sda1 is an IDE Zip drive. Both operating
systems boot independently when boot priority is changed in the system
BIOS. Windows remaind visible in the Grub2 menu after the Ubuntu
upgrade, but when this option is selected, the machine either reboots
and displays the Grub2 menu again or hangs with a black screen and
does not respond to keyboard entries.
Tried the following fixes:
- Booted from Windows recovery disk and run bootrec.exe /fixboot and
fixmbr
- Removed Grub2 and reinstalled it using Boot Repair running from a
bootable CD
