Public bug reported:

Since hardy is nearing the end of its support cycle I initiated an upgrade to lucid. Unfortunately it failed miserably.
What I tried so far:

* disabling (the single one) ppa we had (git) and uninstall their git packages
* looking for broken packages (none found)
* making sure everything is the latest version
* starting do-release-upgrade in server and desktop mode (wont help)

Now I am out of ideas. Uninstalling update-manager-core looks like being
a really bad move for an update so I didnt try that one.

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
The package 'update-manager-core' is marked for removal but it is in
the removal blacklist.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
