I selected /dev/mapper/isw_bgdfahieeb_main which caused the crash.

The only way that I could get Ubuntu 12.10 installed was to continue
without installing a bootloader (grub) and using Boot-Repair (
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair ) to install grub onto the
RAID device.

Whatever Boot-Repair does thats what is needed to be scripted into
future installers when installing onto a RAID device.
