posts. As per se, this is not a bug report against ubiquity package but

Title:
improve installer to get newer releases from the internet
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Idea – Big Picture
=============================================
The main idea is to allays have an installation medium that is capable to install the latest Ubuntu and LTS version as long as there is an internet connection.
# Allays bootable
---------------------------------------------
Add two bootable mini installers to the installation medium, one for 32-bit the other for 64-bit.
If the user inserts a 64-bit CD into an 32-bit-only-PC, instead of an error, he should see a dialog – if an internet connection is available – saying: “This Ubuntu installation medium is for 64-bit PC only. By clicking 'Next' the installer will download an appropriate installation medium for you that fits your processor architecture”.
# One installation CD for all Ubuntu versions
---------------------------------------------
I don't know how many CDs if burned over the years with all kind of Ubuntu flavors on it. If the installer would have the possibility to load a newer Ubuntu version you would never have to burn an installer CD again → reduces garbage.
# Propose to install newer Ubuntu versions
---------------------------------------------
* If the users uses an none LTS installer that is not equals the newest Ubuntu version.
* If the users uses a LTS installer but there is a newer LTS available.
# net-install-only ISO
---------------------------------------------
Beside expanding the “normal” installer there could be a super small net-install-only ISO.
# miscellaneous
---------------------------------------------
Instead of using the official servers to download the ISO maybe torrents could be used - everyone uploads and downloads...
