Phillip, to the extent that there have been any backports at all, those
have been to 12.04; a 12.10 install image (as shown here) should not
have been affected by any backporting work, and in any case the
dependencies on the grub-efi SRU is trivially correct - grub-efi-amd64
(= 1.99-21ubuntu3.9), not grub-efi-amd64 (= 2.00-12ubuntu1).  That
version of grub-efi would definitely not be present in any official CDs
for Ubuntu 12.10.

So while there may be more than one person encountering this issue, I
see no way that it could be a bug in the grub2 package - it looks like a
broken image build of some kind.

Ken, where did you download the image that gave you this problem?
