Title:
Installing Ubuntu a second time and /boot/grub/menu.lst
Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
This is a feature request.
When installing a second Ubuntu installation on the same drive as a first Ubuntu
installation, currently if you use grub there seems to be no way around managing
the /dev/hda1 with the /dev/hda2 installation. This means that from now on your
/boot/grub/menu.lst on /dev/hda2 is responsible for the boot menu, whereas
before the second installation it was menu.lst on /dev/hda1.
I'd like to keep the first installation in control of menu.lst. Somehow Ubuntu
should detect that /dev/hda1 exists and add itself to /boot/grub/menu.lst there,
instead of transferring control to the new installation. If you, at some day,
format the partition with the second installation, you can still boot your
"master" installation.
