[Bug 986550] Re: Ubiquity crashes with "Illegal instruction" right after starting the slideshow

Hi everyone,

It seems that Ubiquity still doesn't work on 32 bits AMD platforms... I
try to install Ubuntustudio 12.10 and since the "killing" of the
alternate CDs, I MUST use Ubiquity.

And during the slideshow, after the first slide Ubiquity crashes just
changing to the second slide, also when I manually change to the second
slide.

I also tried to start with the nomodeset option, with the vga=791 option
and some others, with no better results.

I followed the page "https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity" and I
did start Ubiquity by the command line with "ubiquity -d" and il finally
fails with the "Illegal instruction" error.

My platform is:
- CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (Thoroughbred series), 2 GHz
- Chipset: nForce2 IGP + MCP (IGP desactivated)
- RAM: 2 GB DDR2
- Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3450 AGP
- HDD: 80 GB PATA, 3 partitions (15 GB for "/", 3 GB for Swap, 60 GB for /home)

Ubiquity version: 2.12.16
Ubuntustudio version: ubuntustudio-12.10-dvd-i386.iso (32 bits)

Following attachements to this report:
1 - /var/log/syslog
2 - /var/log/partman
3 - /var/log/installer/debug

Regards,
Johan

Title:
Ubiquity crashes with "Illegal instruction" right after starting the
  slideshow

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Doing test installs on 6 different physical machines here, only one is
  giving me trouble installating.

The crash occurs right after reaching the slideshow, it's 100%
reproducable and the crash shows up as an Illegal instruction error in
  the terminal.

Removing the slideshow entirely worked around the issue, so I'm
strongly suspecting something wrong in webkit.
