It sounds like you chose to install grub to the wrong drive, or have
your bios configured to boot from the wrong drive. Either go into your
bios and have it boot from the other drive, or reinstall and chose to
install grub to the other drive.
** Package changed: grub (Ubuntu) => grub2 (Ubuntu)
** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)

Title:
grub: can not boot after installation
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
HARDWARE INFO:
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz
motherboard: ASUS P9X79
HDD: Western Digital Red 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB WD10EFRX
PREVIOUS OS: ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 64-bit, server.
CURRENT OS (for which I am reporting the bug): ubuntu 12.10, 64-bit, server
DISK PARTITIONS: (on both the previous and current installation):
/dev/sda1 mounted on /
/dev/sda2 mounted on /home
/dev/sda3 used as swap
All they have been of the primary type, no encryption, ext4 FS. My
installation is very simple and basic one, i.e. no cloud, no apache
etc. (The server is used just for performing CPU-intensive
calculations and is configured just for SSH access into bash shell.)
THE PROBLEM:
I decided to install ubuntu 12.10, 64-bit server on the machine
where the older version, 12.04 LTS 64-bit, has already been
succesfully installed in the past. I did a new installation (not
upgrade), keeping the same structure and types of the partionsions as
they were before but formatting all the partitions. The installation
ran smoothly and at the end the CD was ejected and I was asked to
press Enter. I did it and I got the the screen with
error: file not found.
grub rescue>
MORE INFO:
If I remember well, during the 12.10 installation I was not asked
where to place the boot sector (master boot record or such things).
Finally, my installation is based on en_US.UTF8 locale.
I am lost, I do not know how to get the server booting. When I restart
the machine, the same error appears.
