Ok, I let the install 'default' all to the ssd. Same result after the
install has completed. the Reboot cannot find the boot information.
Running the install dvd again to check, I got these results:
A) All instructions say I should have a 100MByte partition to hold the
boot information on the first drive (my ssd boot drive). There is NO
such partition on the drive, according to gparted.
B. fix boot program gives this after attempting to fix:

What to do now?
remove the ssd and try the hard drive?
I am NOT going to buy Windows just so I can install Ubuntu!
