[Bug 1103252] Re: My computer just shut down one day while I was using it, and Ubuntu wouldn't start up after that. When I tried to reinstall Ubuntu I got the message that something went wrong.

Thanks for the answer.

Well, the only reason why I tried to install an older version was that
it was what I had on me (a USB stick). I physically installed Ubuntu
11.10 with this USB stick originally, and then later did an update to
12.04 via internet.

The problem is the bug - or whatever it was - killed my computer, while
the OS was 12.04 LTS.

And it killed my computer so severely I can't reinstall at all, it
seems.

Do you think I won't get the error message if I try installing 12.04?

I am new to Ubuntu, almost a year now. I'm just an average user, for
instance I don't really understand programming language. As I said below
I've been hyping the product shamelessly nonetheless - or just because,
since it's so simple and easy to use, and works better.

But this... I do remember a friend warned me that when Ubuntu went wrong
it wasn't like Windows - where you just bring over the guy who knows a
little more about computers than you do and he can fix it. My friend
said that when Ubuntu went wrong it went really really wrong and you'd
need "expert or a little above expert-level help."

Now I wonder if he's right... ;-)
