Public bug reported:

I did a full upgrade from older ubuntu and got multiple crashes, even
"can't mount /"  I finally ran a repair version and got lots and lots of
failed to install.  I've no idea what it's all about, and certainly I
can't describe all the vaious crash messages.  Sorry
