repair-boot is the utility recommended by the link that I shared in order to restore the ability to boot into Windows8 from GRUB, after having installed Ubuntu with both Secure Boot disabled as well as with UEFI disabled.
My guess, at asking the question above, was that GRUB has to be updated to allow booting in Secure Mode, since Ubuntu was installed otherwise.
As to your question, trying to install showed a blank screen. I tried
the nomodeset and nosplash --verbose text options as well as one or two
more options proposed the Ubuntu Forums installation forum.
