This is truly a horrible picture but I found that if I press Esc while
frozen I get this screen.

  The Live CD for AMD64+Mac fails to reboot after the installation is
  complete

  The CD/DVD is ejected fine and the screen is cleared to a text
  console, then after a few steps, it hangs.
