Title:
Updates list does not show any icon for an application that doesn't
  have an icon

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
If I have an application installed that does not have an icon, the
updater will list that application with absolutely no icon. This looks
  really weird and disorganized.

Instead, we should use the "application-x-executable" icon as a
fallback, which is the convention with application launchers and
  menus.
