please run 'apport-collect 1094671' from the affected system.

If I understand correctly, you're using the nvidia binary drivers.
Those drivers explicitly blacklist the use of any kernel framebuffer
interface, which makes it impossible for plymouth to display any splash
screen.

Title:
  plymouth doesn't shows anything

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Description:	Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
  Release:	12.04
  plymouth plymouth 0.8.2-2ubuntu30

I installed plymouth and plymouth-manager, changed grub settings to
make it work with nvidia X server, installed some theme and tried more
times both manual and automatic mode, but it has never showed boot
animation. I just see the normal ubuntu logo and a black empty screen
lasting about one minute. I cannot also uninstall plymouth because it
requires to uninstall many packages. it might be a probem with grub2,
kernel 3.0.35, plymout, nvidia server. boh.
