You appear to be installing on an intel fakeraid and chose to install
grub to an individual disk ( /dev/sda ). You have to install grub to
the raid array ( /dev/mapper/isw_ccdffbdfeg_Volume0 ).

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

Title:
  Install of 12.10 crashes with Grub error

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  First I tried to upgrade my 12.04 installtion to 12.10, but it failed.
  "Writing GRUB to boot device failed". I google dthe problem and found
  that an update to 12.10 could cause this error if RAID-0 is used.

  I then opted to make a fresh install of 12.10, but the same problem
  occured.

  The rest should all be in the log-files.

  Needless to say, I'm less than satisfied with all this...
