I tested that this has been fixed in Raring. The same package is in
12.10, so I'm going to mark this has fixed.
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: procps
top(1) output is messed up when the first column (PID) is selected for
sorting and highlighted.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a terminal or switch to a virtual console.
2. Start top.
3. Hit 'x' to enable column highlighting. (The effect of this is not visible. Another bug?)
4. Hit '<' a couple of times (8 times) to select the first column (PID).
I am using Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) with procps 1:3.2.7-3ubuntu5.
