Public bug reported:

Several regular jenkins jobs that have been running some time began failing yesterday. ubiquity and debian-installer based images are affected. The message appearing is:
The username you have entered (root) is reserved for use by the system. Please select a different one.
The username in use in these preseeds is jenkins. I will attached one such preseed, a screenshot of the error in ubiquity, and a screenshot of a syslog from debian-installer. I am trying to recreate the bug in ubiquity on an active system and run apport.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

** Attachment added: "root-pw-issue.png"
