[Bug 1176258] [NEW] Gnome with Xmonad fails to start gnome

Public bug reported:

After installing xmonad in 13.04 the "Gnome with Xmonad" login option
fails to start any of the Gnome interface.

Switching between workspaces (mod+1/2/3/4) works but only workspace 2 is
a functional xmonad desktop. On workspace 1 I can see the desktop but
cannot even get a terminal (mod+shift+enter), though I can on workspace
2. All other workspaces look like they're full of display driver
errors.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
