I also experience shutdown hanging.

In case this helps, this is what I see upon shutdown:

      Ubuntu 13.04
          . . . .                                             [OK]
* Killing all remaining processes... [fail]
nm-dispatcher.action: Caught signal 15, shutting down... 
* Deactivating swap...                      [OK]
umount: /run/lock: not mounted
umount /run/shm: not mounted
mount:  /  is busy
* Will now halt

64 bit, nvidia-304 driver (that's what nvidia-current installs)
