Closing this since the kernel does now support >15 partitions.

Title:
can try to make and use >15 partitions

Status in “partman-base” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: debian-installer

  I was doing a test installation of gutsy 20070808 d-i i386.

My system has an extensive partition table with many other installs on
it. I made the mistake of trying to install onto a new extended
partiton sda16. However, the kernel block device numbering scheme
does not allow partitions >sda15 (still!)

The installer should have prevented me from creating a new partition
sda16 and having found one it should have prevented me from trying to
  use it for my installation.
