Title:
cannot start 64-bit ubuntu hardy: it is not detected

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

I allowed Ubuntu Lucid to run automatic updates, and it screwed up the boot loader.
What's worst, is that one of the installations has simply disappeared (that is, I cannot start it).
I have two ubuntu hardy, one 32-bit and one 64-bit, on /dev/sda2 and /dev/sda5 (do not
  remember which one is which).

IIRC, the loader was on sda5 while the 64-bit system was on sda2.

Now grub2 shows the menu where both /dev/sda2 and /dev/sda5 are marked
as 32-bit, and the loaded system is 32-bit in both cases. It looks
like the volume ID is the same in grub.cfg.

I attach the current menu.cfg and include the good menu.lst from sda5
(the 64-bit system had a menu.lst that was not used)

As to security... if the user can start a wrong operating system
without knowing what happened, it probably is a security
  vulnerability.
