This is related to http://bugs.debian.org/659969 and from version
5.0.0-1 on, zsh no more provides an ksh alternative, hence this issue is
already fixed in Ubuntu.

Title:
intrepid update changes /bin/ksh to point to zsh

Status in “zsh” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: zsh

I had /bin/ksh pointing to my compiled version of ksh located in /opt.
After update to Ubuntu 8.10, it was changed to point via /etc/alternatives/ksh to /bin/zsh (version 4.3.6).
I think this should not be normal behaviour, as it causes disruption, especially when ksh package from Ubuntu repositories was not installed at all.
I would expect the link to be changed only in cases if (a) it pointed to older version of zsh or (b) it pointed to ksh from ubuntu packages and ksh was being removed.
  Thanks,
  M.
