Using the command "ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader" would have
reported a bug with the necessary log files to determine what is wrong.
Since you've already created a bug report in Launchpad you can use the
command 'apport-collect 1247656' to add the log files to this bug.

Title:
Fails to calculate upgrade setting software channels with custom ppas
purged
Status in “ubuntu-release-upgrader” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
In accordance to solutions I saw posted in other similar issues, I
installed ppa-purge and purged the xorg-edgers ppa I had installed. I
also removed a couple of other ppas that seemed like they might
similarly cause an issue, including kubuntu backports and webupd8. I
am unsure how to proceed at this stage without more debugging
information. Any suggestions on how I can provide more useful
information?
