I don't know if this info helps with the issue - I left my machine running but turned off the
monitor. I turned it back on a few times and it was OK but when I left it off for the night it
went back to on for about 3 secs and to black screen, so it's not just occurring in the boot
up. My easiest remedy is hitting the on/off button until the screen stays on but the problem
gets worse, each time it's harder to get the screen back on.
It appears that everything else but the (monitor going to black when on) is working fine.

Title:
plymouth in Ubuntu, flashes log in than screen goes black

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After waiting for months, I recently downloaded the offered Plymouth upgrade from the Software Center. It's
been about 10 days later. Running Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS

Problems started yesterday, I had some trouble with Plymouth about a year ago so I waited for months to
download the new upgrade with hopes that there would be no bugs. I'm a granny who just loves Linux but
when I researched the problem there were too many different scenarios for me to know what the right fix was.
Thanks ahead for any help and energy on my issue!

I booted up my PC to only see a black screen. I pressed the on/off button for monitor and got my log-in screen
back, logged in and was alright.

This morning, I booted and got black screen, using on/off on monitor didn't work this time. I logged in with the black
screen on, got in but screen went black again. I used the on/off of the monitor, screen stabilized and function returned
  to normal.

Looking at the changes from yesterday to today, I am concerned that soon I may not be able to get booted in at all, if
things continue to deteriorate . I have a NVIDA card which I see from my troubleshooting research can have trouble
with this Plymouth issue and/or the offered drivers. The PC is a Dell OPTIPLEX 760. ( wish it was newer) I

I am good at following instructions so if you have a fix for me please
let me know what I need to do. Thanks!!
