Public bug reported:
Procedures to reproducing bug:
Fresh install Ubuntu 9.10 via burned DVD+RW from image with full language support. Microsoft Intellimouse Serial & PS/2 mouse plugged in but only PS/2 mouse recognized. Did not have speakers plugged into sound output jack to tell if sound was working. Did not do extensive testing of each installed PCI card, etc.
Upgraded to Ubuntu 10.x LTS. No additional troubles to note.
Upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04. After reboot, VGA display would not come up in the GUI due to monitor unable to sync with the frequencies. Shutdown computer via the power button tapping in very briefly to trigger ordered shutdown.
VGA monitor would not display anything due to "out of range" synchronization / frequency error--work around was to unplug the VGA monitor prior to starting of X, then after 30 seconds, plug in the VGA cable to the display card.
Alt-Ctrl-F1
sudo su -
aptitude
Went to the updatable software item that was marked as upgradable, pressed +, pressed g (go).
Updating completed in aptitude successfully so quit out.
Rebooted via shutdown -r now
Did the VGA monitor disconnected trick above to avoid the "out of range" sync problem. VGA came up in 800x600 or 1024x768 mode without incident.
Got the error for the package dictionaries-common 1.12.1ubuntu2 etc. Clicked on report error.
