Manually removing unity seems to do the trick - not sure if this bricks something :/
Source: http://askubuntu.com/a/360738
To be precise, I'm currently on XUbuntu, so I'm not quite sure why I
even have unity installed (didn't do this on purpose AFAIR) and I don't
know if removing would be more trouble on a vanilla Ubuntu System

Confirmed
Bug description:
I wanted to do an upgrade from 13.04.
So I sued this commend
sudo update-manager -d
But I got this error
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Then I disabled all ppa's same problem
