You are trying to install to a GPT disk in a BIOS booting computer.
This requires you to create a 1 MB bios_grub partition.

Title:
  can't install ubuntu 13.10. Can't use computer anymore

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Upgrading from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10. installation crashed.  Installed 12.04 from a flash disk. Computer keeps trying to start 13.10.  Downloaded a 13.10CD.  instead of repairing the failed install, it installed in another partition.  and again failed.
  I don't want to format my HD.
