This triggers for me without any snapshots or rollbacks, just by having
a btrfs / with multiple devices (currently in degraded mode, not sure if
that's required to trigger it). Fresh server install of 13.04.

Title:
grub-probe fails on btrfs root with non-0 default subvolume id
Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: grub2
Rough outline: btrfs /, ext3 /boot. Used btrfs snapshots to rollback
some changes -- mounted a non-0 subvolume ID. Now, update-grub fails
when it tries to run "grub-probe --target=device /".
