I sent in several updates via email but they haven't appeared so I will
repeat them here:
Today I have tested another DVD burnt under Windows on a modern Dell laptop.
I checked the md5 sum.
Same result as all the other tests.
==================================
When I boot the latest DVD on my laptop I get unexpected results:
On the laptop it briefly shows the grey screen with the keyboard icon at the bottom but then takes ages to start and then presents a full desktop and the installer asking whether you want try or install.
Whereas on the HP ML115 it gets quickly to a language selection screen and then the install, test, check disk, boot from 1st hard disk screen.
Further testing shows that if you press keys early in the boot sequence
then you go straight to the language screen. This explains my finding on
the HP ML 115 which I had not realised was by design
Testing my various DVDs on the windows laptop gives the following
results:
1) Ubuntu Gnome Beta2
- disk check reports no errors found
- boots direct to full desktop
2) Saucy daily build
3) Ubuntu beta2 desktop 64 bit
- disk check reports no errors found
- boots direct to full desktop
4) ubuntu beta2 desktop 32bit
- disk check reports no errors found
- boots direct to full desktop
5) ubuntu gnome beta2 (burnt on windows laptop)
- boots directly to full desktop
- disk check reports no errors found
SUMMARY
Multiple DVDs, all integrity checked and md5 verified fail to work properly on my HP ML115
These include DVDs burnt at different speeds and on different machines.
This includes DVDs burnt at 4x and 8x in Brassero (and verified) on the HP115 itself. This suggests that the DVD writer is working correctly.
Does the beta2 DVD work on other HP ML 115 machines?
Next step: test live usb instead of burning to disk
==================================
I have now caught up with the 21st century and made a Live USB instead of DVD.
The result is the same.
If you leave the system to boot by itself, or you intervene and choose "Try without installing" etc, it always fails at the same point:
BusyBox v1.20.2 (Ubuntu 1:120.0-8.1ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands
(initramfs)
Have you been able to test this on another HP ML115 machine?
Thanks

Title:
Saucy Beta2 installer fails on HP ML115
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Machine HP ML 115 Gen 5
AMD Opteron 1352 Quad core 2.1 GHz
4GB RAM
Disks: 1 x 160GB Sata as /boot /tmp swap /home and /
3x 250GB Sata in mdraid Raid5 array as /data
Current OS: Ubuntu 12.10
1. Beta2 Cd only intermittently boots to installer (language selection)
It seems that if I press Caps Lock a few times during the boot sequence it will manage to get to the installer screen)
2. Running CD integrity check never completes (>1 hour)
3. Selecting Install or Test results in the following screen:
BusyBox v1.20.2 (Ubuntu 1:120.0-8.1ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands
(initramfs)
N.B. Keyboard is non functional at this point
(I have tried with acpi=off apicoff nodmraid)
I have tried 3 different 13.10 beta2 ISOs:
Ubuntu beta 2 - MD5 of downloaded ISO is correct
Ubuntu Gnome Beta 2 - MD5 of downloaded ISO is correct
Ubuntu Gnome Daily build 28th September - MD5 no longer available for checking
also when I burnt them with Brassero I ticked the box which says
something like "Verify after burning"
On all 3 DVDs the installer fails to run properly on my hardware
