It looks like your current install is bios booting, but you booted the
install cd in efi mode.  You need to boot the installer in bios mode
instead, or repartition your disk for EFI mode.

Bug description:
  I had to install ubuntu 14.04 beta 2 on top of my current ubuntu 14.04 because my installation stopped running properly (disk drive light wouldn't go off, don't know why and system was unresponsive. persisted over boots).
  I installed on top with beta 2 and the grub install failed
