Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the oibaf PPA. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. Please revert to the
official Xorg packages and try the upgrade again.

Title:
trying to upgrade to xubuntu 14.04. could not calculate upgrade

Status in “ubuntu-release-upgrader” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu

  I don't think so...?

  * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu

Am running 13.10. It is the current version of Ubuntu, as far as I
  know.

  * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

I am running only a few unofficial software packages, abd I don't
believe they'd interfere with the upgrade.
